Premiere of the Classical Orchestra of P.PORTO

SC

The debut concert will be held on July 7 at Casa da Música.

The Classical Orchestra of P.PORTO (OCPP) was born in 2019 as a performative musical structure, semi-professional, created and supported by the Presidency of Politécnico do Porto.

On July 7, at 9:30 p.m., it has official debut in Room 2 of Casa da Música. The debut concert will be preceded by a general rehearsal, open to the community, on July 6.

Directed by guest maestro Pedro Neves, the OCPP performs two symphonies:

Symphony No. 1 in E flat major, op.11 (1809), by Domingos Bomtempo (ca 25`)

Despite being the greatest name of instrumental music of the late seventies in Portugal, the composer and pianist João Domingos Bomtempo remains relatively unknown. Son of the italian Francesco Saverio Bomtempo, coming to Portugal to integrate the "Royal Camera" in the middle of the century. In the eighteenth century, he became a young musician, and in 1801, at the age of 26, he decided to perfect himself: he chose Paris rather than Rome or Naples (as was usual among his peers) and opted for instrumental rather than opera - the piano. The Symphony No. 1, probably composed in 1809, is a landmark in our musical history as the first classical symphony written by a Portuguese.

Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 in C Major, op.21 (1799-1800), by Ludwig van Beethoven (ca 28`)

The first of the nine Ludwig van Beethoven symphonies was composed in Vienna between 1799 and 1800 in the which musicologists call the first Beethoven period. The symphony presents an eminently classical style, a composition that in its entirety derives from the purest Mozart and Haydian tradition although with enough innovation and quality to be a deeply original masterpiece.

Directed by different invited maestro's, with the mission to organize, guide and direct the rehearsals, the OCPP is constituted, in its basic formation, by 37 musicians.

Free entrance,  subject to available seats.

Reservations until July 4 to orquestra@sc.ipp.pt.
