The first phase of the National Contest for Admissions to Higher Education (CNA), closed with a 0.1% increase in the number of placements.
The figures released September 9 by Direção-Geral do Ensino Superior (DGES) show that, in comparison with previous years, the demand for Lisbon and Porto courses, stayed at similar levels, despite the reduction of vacancies imposed by the supervisory institution in order to foster the demand for schools and institutions into the inner cities of the country.
Politécnico do Porto filled almost all of vacancies, leaving only eight seats.
In the first phase, only ISCTE filled all the vacancies; in the New University of Lisbon there were only two positions left; at the University of Porto 19; and at the University of Lisbon, 118. According to the data provided by the DGES regarding the first phase of the 2018/2019 National Contest for Admissions to Higher Education, Politécnico do Porto increased the percentage of student placement compared to 2017. We filled 99, 7% of the initial vacancies and we had 3,698 candidates in the 1st option out of a total of 16,250 candidates for 2,895 vacancies.

Applications for the second phase of the National Contest t will take place between 10 and 21 September, for which remaining vacancies in the first phase will be available.
The results of the second phase of the contest will be announced September 27.
