Exhibition: Didatics for Industrialization

"The Part Played by Porto Educational Spaces" will be in exhibition from October 24 in Palácio da Bolsa.

The advent of technical education in Portugal in the mid-nineteenth century translates the hegemony of the concept of Industry linked to Progress.

Understood as a direct consequence for the development of the country's economy, this "popular instruction" emerges as a liberal bastion, present in the spirit of the law and in the decrees concerning education.

With the fundamental contribution of the associative movements of engineers, scientists and craftsmen, Porto was the decisive stage in the beginning of technical education in Portugal with the creation of the Industrial School, in December 1852.

This is the preamble to the long history of the pioneer schools of ISEP and ISCAP. The exhibition The Didactics for Industrialization presents a brief tour through the objects, documents, people and subjects taught at the Industrial and Commercial Institute of Porto. A journey that not only pays tribute to the memory, but also preserves a seminal period of technical education in a city in the midst of its industrial conversion.

From October 24 to December 31 at Palácio da Bolsa, Porto.

Guided tours on 8 and 22 November and 7 and 21 December.
Free entry.
