The commemoration of the anniversary of the School of Technology and Management (ESTG) took place on November 17th with the presence of Rosario Gambôa, President of Politécnico do Porto, Nuno Fonseca, Presidente of CM Felgueiras, as well as several business representatives in the region of Tâmega and Sousa. A word for the presence of Eurico Lemos Pires, founder of the School in 1999,and Fernando Freire de Sousa, President of CCDR-N - Commission for Coordination and Regional Development of the North.
"The School has finally reached adulthood", said Dorabela Gamboa, ESTG President, highlighting the often difficult 18-year course that started with a single bachelor's degree and 13 students. "Today we have seven degrees, seven master degrees, seven CTeSPs and more than 1400 students".
Rosário Gambôa points out the progressive positioning of the School, which decisively surpasses the Felgueiras frontier to impose itself in the region of Tâmega and Sousa. "The school managed to connect, articulate, dominate and be present in the 11 municipalities that characterize the region, always in a personal and differentiated way." The President also emphasizes the extraordinary growth of the school, above all in its capacity for insertion in the territory, of adaptation and leadership. "ESTG is a strategic launcher for P.PORTO in this region and in the northern region of the country."
The same day meet the presentation of the Phase 1 Preliminary Study of the definitive installations of the School, which will undergo decisive interventions, both for the rehabilitation and reallocation of the building, as the construction, with its own revenues, of a new building, an investment totaling more than two million euros.
This project is essential to the fair fulfillment of the activity of Campus 3, emphasizes Dorabela Gamboa. "2018 will be a decisive year, the year of the start-up of the construction of the new facilities, the restructuring of the main building, which will house the research center and the Office of Support to the Entrepreneur, projects that are fundamental to our mission". The project, presented by the architect Rodrigo Patrício during the session, provides new spaces for administrative and management services, more classrooms and auditoriums, teaching and research laboratories, offices for teachers, a library, computer center and study spaces.
