Postgraduate Studies in Intangible Cultural Heritage

Assuming as key principles areas such as memory and identity, in relation with the territory; culture, economy and education, following the commitments expressed in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Postgraduate Studies in Intangible Cultural Heritage aims to provide trainees with solid theoretical and methodological skills to act and support actions of survey, cataloguing, recording, data collection, safeguarding, recognition and dissemination of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. It also aims to favour a continuous, autonomous and self-guided learning process which enhances the acquired experience, raising awareness towards a critical position and ethical action in the professional practice in this dimension of Cultural Heritage.

The programme is aimed at: directors and senior technicians of museums, municipalities, and the various national, regional or local tourism services, technicians of institutions linked to Cultural Heritage, Arts and Cultural Management, researchers, teachers and students of higher education courses related to Human and Social Sciences, Cultural Heritage and Arts and Cultural Management, as well as associative directors of Heritage Protection Associations, Artistic, Cultural and Folklore Groups, members of Fraternities and other persons interested in the safeguarding and promotion of Cultural Heritage.

The course has 40 ECTS and 240 training hours, distributed over one academic year

This Postgraduate Degree is in line with the work developed in Portugal in the area of Intangible Heritage since 2008, both in applications to UNESCO and with regard to the National Inventory. In this sense, the privileged professional outlets are located in the field of the cultural sector, namely: city councils and parish councils, intermunicipal communities, cultural associations and recreational groups, museums and organizations in the tourism sector, public or private.

Applications are accepted from: a) Holders of the bachelor degree or legal equivalent; b) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree conferred following a 1st cycle of studies organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a State that adheres to this Process; c) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree that is recognized as fulfilling the objectives of the bachelor degree by the ESE's Technical and Scientific Council; d) Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae that is recognized as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies by the ESE's Technical and Scientific Council.
