P.PORTO develops virtual activities for children

The CiiL of the Polytechnic of Porto maintains its action to promote the success in the learning of reading and writing through social networks

Since 2015 that CiiL team – Centro de Investigação e Intervenção na Leitura (Intervention and Research Centre in reading) of the Polytechnic of Porto has been applying the results of the research to the implementation of a systematic intervention in a school context. Applying it directly with the children attending the public network in the Municipality of Porto, in a job alongside that of the full professor/educator.

On March 18, 2020, CiiL adopted a virtual mode, with the objective of maintaining the continued work of intervention that has so far occurred in a presential mode. Adapting the activities to promote the pre-reading and reading skills aimed at children, can be accessed through the social networks such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, presenting the hashtag #ficaemcasaccomCiiL ( #stayathomewithCiiL).

The CiiL team has been applying the results of the investigation to implement a systematic intervention in a school context. Applying it directly with the children who attend public schools in the city of Porto, since 2015.

Currently, its intervention covers all school groupings in the Municipality of Porto, reaching 773 children (538 in pre-school education and 235 in the 1st cycle), in a work carried out together with the class/educator teacher.

The CiiL intervention is the result of a partnership between the Polytechnic of Porto, the Porto City Council and the Ministry of Education. Since 2018 it has benefited from European funding, namely through the NORTE 2020 Operational Programme, in the investment priority of combating school failure, within the ambit of the Integrated and Innovative Plans to Combat School Failure (Planos Integrados e Inovadores de Combate ao Insucesso Escolar- PIICIE).
