The Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), because they have a unique combination of competences that enable them to play a central role in the fields of education, scientific research, social responsibility and the defense of the common good, must be particularly active elements in the global movement.
At the 1st Sustainable Campus Conference, held on 31 October in Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, the Letter of Commitment to the Sustainable Campus Network was signed by representatives of 28 Public Higher Education Institutions - 12 in 14 universities, 12 in 15 polytechnic institutes and four in five non-integrated higher schools.
In the context of the conference on Sustainable Development: Higher Education Institutions as Agents of Change, Iain Patton, CEO of EAUC Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges - The Alliance for Sustainability and Kristina Von Oelreich from Royal Institute for Technology, were invited. The Polytechnic of Porto was represented by its President, João Rocha.
The signatory HEIs of the Letter of Intent are firmly committed to playing a central role in the evolution towards a sustainable, free, fair, caring and tolerant society, characterized by respect for nature and the human person, integrating in a transversal manner in all their activities. 2030 Agenda to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.
