A Prevent Sprain Technology, a sock that combines an anatomical and biomechanical principles of functional bandages and ankle supports, created by researchers from the Rehabilitation Research Center (CIR), won an international prize at the 37th edition of FIHAV - International Fair of Havana in Cuba.
Alexandre Lopes and Diogo Silva, professors of the Porto Polytechnic School of Health and CIR Researchers, in partnership with the company CM Socks - Peúgas Carlos Maia, saw their work awarded with Medalla de Oro. This innovative product was designed to prevent ankle sprain (the most common sports injury) through the combination of rigid and semi-rigid orthoses while enhancing performance with the inclusion of a non-slip region that prevents slipping inside the shoe.
Prevent Sprain Technology allows specific orientation of tension bands that counteract the mechanism of injury, favoring a neutral joint position. The different pressures and elasticities of the product stimulate skin sensory receptors, increasing information to the central nervous system and facilitating muscle activation of the muscles that actively control the mechanism of injury.
This innovative product is patented in 143 countries and is used by national and international professional athletes of various modalities. CM Socks - Peúgas Carlos Maia, product creator and CIR partner, was highlighted in a group of 4000 companies from around 60 countries, having received the award from the Cuban Foreign Trade Minister, Rodrigo Malmierca.
