Young Citizenship Award for P.PORTO students

The awarded project is called (IN)Capazes and was developed by final-year students from ESE, the Education school of Porto Polytechnic

The students from the School of Education (ESE) of the Polytechnic of Porto, Bruna Jeremias and Ana Rita Pinto saw their work recognized in the 2021 edition of the #CitizenshipYouth Award, organized by the More Citizenship Association, in collaboration with the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth.

The project arose from the partnership of the Social Education internship with Associação IN - Association for Lifelong Inclusion, which works for the inclusion of people with disabilities and aims to challenge people to reflect on stereotypes, inviting them to look beyond these labels.

Through a group and participatory process, the group created and performed a rap that allowed them to give a stage to their voices, calling the community's attention to their realities and launching the challenge of questioning "the art of winning is in each one of us and not in our difficulties".

The #CitizenshipYouth Award aims to promote education for citizenship through non-formal education methodologies. The project aims to promote spaces for youth participation to encourage democratic initiative and active citizenship in the public, social, and individual spheres.

With this, it is hoped to contribute to the recognition of citizenship as a practice of added value to the lives of young people and to the surrounding society. To this end, young people and educators (teachers, leaders, youth workers) have been trained to develop in these spaces actions and contents that assist learning about, through, and for citizenship.

This project is framed within the Active Citizens program, a component of EEA Grants that aims to support non-governmental organizations. The program is funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, and is managed in Portugal by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in consortium with the Bissaya Barreto Foundation.
