The IV International Piano Festival of the Algarve, an event organized by the Council of Loulé, will have the participation of the Classical Orchestra of the Polytechnic of Porto (OCPP).
The performance will take place on February 16, at Cine-Teatro Louletano, starting at 5pm. OCPP will accompany pianists Pedro Burmester, Miguel Borges Coelho and Hugo Peres (biographies below). Bach's concerts for one, two and three pianos will be presented.
Pedro Burmester was born in Porto, in 1963, and for ten years was a student of Helena Sá e Costa, having completed a degree in Piano at the Porto Conservatory with 20 values in 1981. He has already performed more than 1000 solo concerts, with an orchestra and in several chamber music formations, in Portugal and abroad. His discography includes three solo albums featuring works by Bach, Schumann and Schubert; one in duo with Mário Laginha; and three recordings with the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa.
Miguel Borges Coelho (Porto, 1971) began his piano study with Amélia Vilar, later continuing his training at the Porto Music Conservatory. As a scholarship holder at the Gulbenkian Foundation, he later studied at the Staatliche Hochschule fur Musik Freiburg im Breisgau and at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia. He is currently a professor at the School of Music and Performing Arts (ESMAE).
Hugo Peres (Porto, 1997) started studying the piano in 2003, at the Óscar da Silva School of Music. In 2004 he joined the Porto Conservatory of Music. In 2015, he joined Miguel Borges Coelho's class at ESMAE, having completed his degree in piano in 2019. He currently attends the master’s degree in Artistic Interpretation at ESMAE, also with Miguel Borges Coelho.
Remember that OCPP is a performative musical structure, of a semi-professional nature, created and supported by the Presidency of the Polytechnic of Porto. Its fundamental objective is to provide students and alumni with an orchestral musical structure that allows them to develop and perfect an instrumental / orchestral activity, individually and collectively, in a regular and oriented manner.
In addition to the orchestral activity that takes place throughout the year, OCPP promotes and supports the realization of different chamber music projects, of varying number and instrumental geometry, with its instrumentalists - the OCPP Soloists.
