The Postgraduate Course in Diagnosis in Cytopathology has the primary objective of providing students with conditions for a professional performance of excellence in the various aspects of cytology. This course arises from the need identified by the European Advisory Committee of Cytotechnlogy (EACC) and the European Federation of Cytology Societies (EFCS), with regard to the level of knowledge and practical skills required for the performance of cytotechnician duties in Europe. From the survey carried out, it was found that training at this level is quite heterogeneous both in terms of the quality and level of training required, and in terms of recognition of the profession. Thus, the need was identified to create advanced/postgraduate training courses capable of providing professionals with the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for the performance of the profession in the area of diagnosis in cytopathology.

This course proposes a year of theoretical and practical training, divided into 3 modules ? Gynecological Cytology, Non-Gynecological Exfoliative Cytology; and Non-Gynecological Aspiration Cytology. After passing the course, students are designated Cytotechnologists accredited by the EFCS.
