CENTRE OF MUSICAL SOCIOLOGY AND AESTHETIC STUDY

CESEM (Centre of Musical Sociology and Aesthetic Study) is dedicated to research on the phenomenon of music from a great variety of points of view — sociological, aesthetic, historical, compositional, etc. — through an interaction between the various areas of Musicology and between these and the other Social and Human Sciences. Main research areas include history and cultural heritage, repertoires and respective sources, socio-communicative models and reception, cognition and psycho-acoustic processes, and applied musical technologies. CESEM centres are in NOVA University in Lisbon, in the Lisbon Polytechnic Institute and in the University of Évora.
